Summer Research Internship, Virtual Reality Lab, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
Platform: UnrealEngine 4 (UE4), HTC Vive
Team size: 3
Project Duration: 07/2019-08/2019
· Study cognitive factors in distance perception accuracy in VR through human-subjects testing
Different immersive environment are used in this experiment:
Project One:
Eye Height Project (Unreal Engine 4 (UE4), HTC Vive)
The project aims to study the effect of human’s sensitivity of eye height on distance perception in different VR environments.
WHAT I DID:
· Extended the existing eye height project to explore the human’s sensitivity of eye height under different human poses(sitting/standing) and self-avatar availabilities (w/o) in the immersive virtual environment
· Implemented a feature that allows participants to adjust eye height by the Vive controller (adjust the eye height by moving fingers on the touch pad disc, specifically, manipulating eye height by the difference between the initial touched position and the ended location)
· Implemented a feature that registers virtual avatars whose size is scalable to participants
Project Two:
Windows Project (Unreal Engine 4 (UE4), HTC Vive)
The project aims to studied the impact of outdoor views on spaciousness judgments of architecturalinteriors in VR
WHAT I DID:
· Implemented the functionality that can randomly get different combinations of six customized rooms and six customized outdoor environment settings in UE4 for the experiment
Project Three:
Ceiling Height Project (Unreal Engine 4 (UE4), HTC Vive)
WHAT I DID:
· Studied the interaction between the walking intervention and distance perception accuracy in VR
· Conducted the human subjection experiment and collected data
